Our response

Freedom of Information

Thank you for your letter dated March 2009 which was received in this office on 5 March 2009.

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that we do not hold the information that you have requested.

I should point out that at present, individual service providers are responsible for obtaining British Sign Language and English interpreting services.  You might therefore wish to consider approaching Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) separately with your request.   PCTs should also be able to assist with your query concerning the number of deaf people in a given area.

In order to assist you with this matter I have provided a link to our website that will enable you to make direct contact with the relevant organisations.
