Request
Information regarding current contracts for Bristish Sign Language and Interpreting Services.
Our Response
I refer to your letter dated November 2009 concerning information about contracts for British Sign Language (BSL)/English Interpreting.
I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that NHS East Midlands does not hold the information that you have requested.
At present, individual service providers are responsible for obtaining BSL and English interpreting services. You might therefore wish to consider approaching Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), acute and mental health trustsseparately with your request. PCTs should also be able to assist with your query concerning the number of deaf people in a given area’.
