Enquiry Details: Questions are in relation to financial year April 2010 – March 2011

1.         What is the name of your representative who liaises with the Primary Care Trusts to ensure your strategic plan becomes a reality?

2.         What initiatives or working parties do you have or plan to have in the area of Pathology?

3.         Does your SHA have a strategic plan regarding NHS Pathology Laboratories services within your catchment area?

4.         Does your SHA have a strategic plan for NHS Direct access Pathology services within your catchment area?

5.         Are Pathology Services on your strategic agenda for the next financial year (April 2010 – March 2011)?

6.         Who is your nominated person (name and title) to help drive through the recommendations cited within the Lord Carters review of NHS Pathology services in England?

7.         What authority do you have to ensure that your pathology strategic plan is adhered to by the Primary Care Trusts or other health organisations within your region?

8.         Does your SHA have any plans to run pilot projects aimed at Improving direct access pathology services within your region?

9.         Should you be supporting pilot projects aimed at Improving direct access pathology services during financial year 2010/2011

         Within which NHS organisations will they be running? (i.e. which PCT’s or Foundation Trusts).
b          How will these projects be funded (i.e. Government supported or privately)

10.       How would any organisation (either NHS or private) become involved in running a pathology pilot project within your SHA area?

I refer to your email requesting information in respect of Direct Access Pathology and how this fits into NHS East Midlands strategic Plans. 

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that we do hold some of the information that you have requested.  I will address each of your points in turn:-

1.         What is the name of your representative who liaises with the Primary Care Trusts to ensure your strategic plan becomes a reality?

  • Avril Johns, Director of Strategy & System Development, NHS East Midlands.

2.         What initiatives or working parties do you have or plan to have in the area of Pathology?

  • The Pathology Modernisation Board.  This is a local meeting.

3.         Does your SHA have a strategic plan regarding NHS Pathology Laboratories services within your catchment area?

  • No.

4.         Does your SHA have a strategic plan for NHS Direct access Pathology services within your catchment area?

  • Plan priorities have not yet been agreed

5.         Are Pathology Services on your strategic agenda for the next financial year (April 2010 – March 2011)?

  • No

6.         Who is your nominated person (name and title) to help drive through the recommendations cited within the Lord Carters review of NHS Pathology services in England?

  • Avril Johns, Director of Strategy & System Development

7.         What authority do you have to ensure that your pathology strategic plan is adhered to by the Primary Care Trusts or other health organisations within your region?

  • Not applicable – see above responses.

  • This would be open to discussion with NHS East Midlands.  See answers 1 and 6 above.
