Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programmes

Request

May I please request (under FOI) the details of any Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programmes with your region. I understand that these programmes have a minimum amount of registered Diabetic patients and therefore PCTs combine to offer this type of service.

Can I request the following please:-

  • Name of Programme

  • The PCTs involved

  • Number of Diabetic patients

  • The name, address, email address and phone number of the Programme lead

  • The expiry date of the current contract of the programme

  • The length of the current contract

  • The value of the current contract

  • The name of the current provider of the service

Our Response

I refer to your email requesting information in respect of diabetic retinopathy screening programmes in the East Midlands. 

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do not hold all of the information that you have requested.  However, I would point out that most of the information you have requested is available to the public via the National Screening Programme website http://www.retinalscreening.nhs.uk/pages/

I will indicate the availability of this information for each of your questions.

The PCTs involved  

  • NHS Nottinghamshire is the lead commissioner for the North Nottinghamshire and Greater Nottinghamshire Programmes.

 

  • NHS Derbyshire is the lead commissioner for the Derbyshire programme.

 

  • NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland is the lead commissioner for the Leicestershire programme.

 

  • NHS Northamptonshire is the commissioner for the Northamptonshire Programme.

 

  • NHS Lincolnshire is the commissioner for the Lincolnshire Programme.

 

  • NHS Milton Keynes is the commissioner of the Buckinghamshire programme that provides screening to Milton Keynes.

 

Number of Diabetic patients

  • Each Primary Care Trust has a target of screening people with diabetes who are over the age of 12 on an annual basis.  Some diabetics will be excluded on clinical grounds –  for example if they are already under the care of an ophthalmology department.   The targets for each PCT for the quarter ending June 2011, is tabulated below.
