Start point:
There was a lack of clarity between the education commissioner andprovider roles within the former East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery (EMHWD) with some people having dual responsibilities. This presented a problem in terms of potential conflicts of interest and confusion.
End point:
We needed to effect a working separation of the commissioner and provider roles and re-define them to remove dual responsibilities and improve quality and value for money in medical and non medical education. These organisational changes were made in April 2010.
How got there:
Education commissioning has been integrated more closely into the EMSHA structure and the provider functions of the Deanery have become a hosted, arms length function pending the establishment of HIECs (see later).
