Modernising Scientific Careers (MScC) is a key programme of work led by the Department of Health, which aims to transform training and career pathways for the healthcare scientist workforce. The MScC proposals have been developed as part of the implementation plans detailed in 'A High Quality Workforce', part of the NHS Next Stage Review. Following the launch of the England Action Plan in spring 2010, MSC is currently being implemented across all SHAs

East Midlands Lead Scientist Appointed
Dr Jane Blower Consultant Embryologist at University Hospitals Of Leicester NHS Trust has been appointed as the Lead Scientist for NHS East Midlands. This new post, along with similar posts in the other nine SHAs is supported by Professor Sue Hill, Chief Scientific Officer at the DH, working to raise standards of patient care and safety, as well as the profile of the scientific community in healthcare. Jane will be working across the East Midlands and across the Scientific Divisions in her new role, and within the SHA structure will report to the Medical Director, Dr Kathy Mclean.
Jane’s role will include championing the delivery of the Modernising Scientific Careers programme. MSC will provide a training and career framework for healthcare science professionals that will help to establish a well-qualified and flexible workforce, meeting current and future service needs. MSC will also provide a set of education and training standards for the whole of healthcare science.
