Local Joint Investment Framework

The Joint Investment Framework (JIF) is a vital initiative which offers real opportunities for the wider East Midlands health sector workforce both now and in the future.

In July 2007 a national 3-year agreement was signed between Skills for Health, the Learning and Skills Council  (LSC) and the 10 Strategic Health Authorities to form the Joint Investment Framework and the National Health Sector Strategic Alliance.  The alliance was formed to focus on:

  • Healthcare staff in bands 1-4 (Agenda for Change)
  • Skills and qualifications at Levels 2, 3, and 4

  • Apprenticeships
  • Skills for Life

Locally, the SHA is continuting to invest and work in partnership with the Skills Funding Agency (successor to the LSC) with the specific aims of:

  • Developing a skilled workforce through high quality, relevant provision and targeted investment

  • Delivering skills, learning and qualifications to improve patient care and the delivery of services

Apprenticeships

Acknowledged as a mainstream approach to developing the skills of the wider workforce, apprenticeships are of benefit in attracting new staff of any age into the NHS to meet future service requirements or to up skill existing employees.

Available in over 190 occupations of which more than 80 of these frameworks are relevant to health service occupations, apprenticeships are recognised as a route for providing fully skilled and flexible employees who have the potential to progress through their organisation and are motivated to make a career of working in the NHS.
