The region’s infection control campaign – Hand in Hand, fighting infection together – is now into its third year.
On 1 February 2010 the latest phase of the campaign — which challenges assumptions made by members of the public about antibiotics, hand hygiene and cleanliness - was launched.
The campaign features NHS staff and members of the public holding up true / false paddles when asked about commonly held beliefs.
As part of this year's campaign, a quiz machine toured the region, forming the centrepiece of week-long roadshows in waiting rooms, shopping centres and other public areas near you. Infection control staff talked to people, demonstrating hand-washing techniques and answering any questions.
There was also an advertising campaign on ITV Central — to see it click here. Articles and adverts appeared in local newspapers, the high street and in public toilets. And all 28 NHS organisations in the patch were given posters, window vinyls and leaflets.
You can also find out why hand hygiene is so vital in the fight against infection by watching the video on the NHS Choices website.
