The Hand in Hand, fighting infection together campaign is the first public-facing campaign for hand hygiene.  Washing hands regularly and correctly is one of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

We can all play our part in the spread of infection.

In March 2008 an army of 200 'Talking' Nurses were deployed across NHS organisations in the East Midlands.  Visitors and patients can see the cardboard cutouts at entrances to wards and health centres to remind us all to clean our hands.

The nurses all have voiceboxes recorded with hand hygiene messages which are activated by shadow and light.  So when someone walks past the message is played.  Good hand hygiene reduces the spread of infections such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

The nurse featured is an actual infection control nurse based at Glenfield Hospital, Leciester.

For more information on the nurses or any part of the Hand in Hand campaign please email us or call the Communcations Team on 0115 968 4444.
