The 2008 Climate Change Act made Britain the first country in the world to set legally binding ‘carbon budgets’, aiming to cut UK emissions by at least 80% by 2050. The Carbon Trust was set up by Government in 2001 as an independent company. Their mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy. The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change is the leading body for the assessment of climate change, established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic consequences. The IPCC is a scientific body. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. Differing viewpoints existing within the scientific community are reflected in the IPCC reports.

Walking for Health encourages more people to become physically active in their local communities.
We support the largest network of health walk schemes across England, offering regular short walks over easy terrain with trained walk leaders. Walking for Health was established in 2000 and now has over 600 local schemes nationwide (93 of which are in the East Midlands). Walking for Health contributes to improving the health of over 66,000 regular walkers nationwide (with over 5400 in the East Midlands).
